PTSD MENTAL INJURY OR MENTAL ILLNESS?

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or usually we call PTSD in this era rarely heard by many people. A lot of people are disparaging PTSD because it considers not a problem that needs to be addressed by doctors. PTSD according to Zlonic (2001, on Chandra, 2009) is a reaction that arises after experiencing a traumatic experience and can last for years. PTSD can disrupt a person for life if there is no follow-up to the treatment so that it causes stress on a person. This was explained by Darmono (2008 on Chandra, 2009)


In July 2018, in Russia, there are three girls who are banging and piercing their sleeping father until he dies in their home. The causes of their murder of her father, namely the father persecuting and isolating his three daughters physically and psychology this cause the disturbance of the soul oh the three daughters PTSD according to the psychiatry that handles them. The above event is an example of cases caused by PTSD. PTSD is known to have existed since the ancient man through the analysis of relics of ancient Iraq civilization and notes of the ancient Greek historian Herodotus traced by Professor Jamie Hacker Hughes. PTSD first officially introduced by the American Psychiatry Association in 1980.


PTSD is a mental injury or mental illness? Let see. According to the psychology dictionary compiled by J.P. Chaplin, mental injury is a malfunction caused by disease, accident, or deliberately intervene through surgery. Usually formed from unpleasant canning that occurs continuously then arise stress conditions while mental illness by various health condition affecting circumstance, mind, and behavior. PTSD is a mental condition caused by traumatic experiences. Examples of even such as confronting or learning something involving death, threats, or sexual abuse.


Everyone from young to old has the potential to experience PTSD. Some cases when an adult has PTSD because of childhood, have experienced an unpleasant. Most of them experience PTSD are war veterans, it is because war happened all the time, and they saw lots of murdering scenes in front of their eyes. They were feeling scared and it traumatized them a lot, makes them got PTSD because of never-ending fear. Another factor of PTSD is the bloodline who has mental health issues like anxiety and depression. A lot of them didn’t get enough support from their family, made their behavior changes quickly and easily. A symptom that appears when someone suffers from PTSD is easily angry, concentration problems, feeling of fear that disturbing.

PTSD is a mental injury that needs to be concerned seriously because it has a big impact on human behavior. Some treatments for PTSD can come from psychotherapy and drug that contained anti-depressant. The prevention of PTSD is done by calling the right authorities at the right time or come to the doctor if the PTSD appears can be treated well.
